Beach out and touch
Due south of Salvador and bordering one of the world’s last remaining Atlantic coastal rainforests, the stylish little resort of Itacaré offers unspoiled surroundings and a good range of places to stay – and play.

Take a short flight (or long bus trip) to Ilhéus, then hire a car or take a taxi to the idyllic Itacaré peninsula. Pirates and whalers once roamed these shores but it was cocoa production in the shaded tree-canopy that brought wealth to this area of Bahia, helping to protect its jungle.

The best of beaches, preserved rainforests, the authentic charm of a fishing village and a lively street scene provide a unique array for your holiday of choice.
Swim, surf, or just lay back and soak up the sun in any one of a dozen beautiful bays – and if you tire of relaxing, venture into the lush jungle of the Serra Grande nature reserve or wander along the Rio de Contas. Itacaré has an excellent mix of cafés, bars and restaurants catering to locals and visitors alike.

“...the town’s cacao plantations are flourishing and progress reigns…suddenly there is more to think about than everyday concerns: love affairs, murder, banquets, funerals, desire, hatred, vengeance and miracles”. Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon,

É minha praia, pro-nounced eh-meen-ya-pry-ya, literally “it’s my beach”, equivalent to an English person saying “it’s my
cup of tea!”.
