Walk on the wild side
Take a comfortable bus journey 400km into the heart of Bahia to discover the spectacular Chapada Diamantina National Park, a wonderful destination for hiking. Lençois is a charming colonial-style town, founded on diamond mining, gateway to the park and base for a wide range of trekking and outdoor adventure activities.

Chapada Diamantina is a protected paradise of endemic plants, birds and wildlife. Its natural landscape of caverns and canyons, marbled riverbeds and majestic waterfalls, are part of the Brazilian ‘shield’ – an ancient remnant of our planet’s single land mass!
Lençois is a delightful little town, with some excellent local pousadas and restaurants. Take a day’s hike into the National Park or join a 5-day trekking expedition to explore the sertão wilderness, rich in flora and fauna, and the extraordinary landscape of caves, high plateaus and waterfalls that characterize Brasil’s chapadas.

“Diamantina features sharp topography with deep valleys, gorges and ravines nestled in among isolated peaks. Intertwined are weather-sculptured rocks, crystal clear rivers, pools and gloriously isolated waterfalls”. © Chris Ord, Brazil’s heart of diamonds
